The G3S research team was delighted to travel to Reims for our very first on‑site meeting with a partner, Philippe Giordani at the Césaré Creation Center (Centre National de Création Musicale, CNCM). It was a very exciting and inspiring day. We spent hours brainstorming on the relationship between space, listening devices, and musical composition.

Philippe Giordani introduced us to the different centre’s projects and missions and a specially the Sonobox, a portable “listening room” equipped with eleven loudspeakers placed around a single listening spot. The idea of the Sonobox is to make a sweet-spot listening experience more accessible to the greater public. Designed collaboratively by Giordani (design), Nicolas Boudier (plastic device), Benjamin Furbacco (IT development), and Fabien Darley (graphic design), the Sonobox can provide a portable immersive environment for a single listener. During our visit, we had the pleasure of hearing three of the ten electroacoustic works composed and spatially mixed specifically for this unique setup.

We left Reims eager to explore how the Sonobox concept could inform our future projects, and we are looking forward to further collaborations with the team at Césaré – Centre National de Création Musicale.
