Alain Bonardi is Professor of Computer Science and Musical Creation at Université Paris 8, where he is affiliated with the Music Department and the Musidanse laboratory. He co-leads the CICM (Centre de Recherche en Informatique et Création Musicale) with Anne Sèdes. Since september 2025, he is the Principal Investigator of the ERC Advanced Grant project G3S (Generative Spatial Synthesis of Sound and Music, 2025-2030). He is also a composer and computer music designer.
Alain Bonardi has a fundamentally interdisciplinary background, spanning music, musicology, computer science and engineering. He situates his teaching and research within an experimental framework of artistic and technical creation, subsequently theorized through musicological methodologies. Central to this approach is an epistemological stance that treats creation itself as a research activity. Alain Bonardi is interested in computer science not for technological purposes, but for its capacity to invent new ways of composing, understanding and listening to music and sound. His teaching and research are geared towards developing open computer languages for musical and sound creation.
Most of Alain Bonardi’s creations are part of the university projects and research-creation carried out at CICM.
